One in a series of unusual maps made using custom software created for Tauba Auerbach by programmer Jason Davies. The tool allows one to rotate the earth in any direction and flatten it using a wide array of projections, producing unfamiliar but mathematically accurate models of the earth.
In this application, the gaze is focused on the oceans and the Southern Hemisphere.
The software was originally created to generate source material for a series of paintings and GIFs, as part of the exhibition Panthalassa at Standard (Oslo) in October 2020.
Earnings from these posters will contribute to the Indigenous Language Institute, Critical Resistance and Indigenous Environmental Network.
